Pedestrian deaths rose from 71 for the 1961 period to % this year, while deaths of servicemen fell from 26 to 22. Rural deaths rose from 302 to 322 and urban ones; from 68 to 75.
Colonel Woodson said that there had been no relaxation of the official effort which brought the state four national awards for 1961 performance and that there also appeared to be no lessening of overall public concern, but that studies of crash reports indicated a disturbing lack of individual responsibility and appreciation of the dangers presented by modem traffic. !
Virginia saw consecutive death reductions in 1958, 1959 and 1960j with 1961 deaths climbing sharply to 856 from the 756 of 1960.
4-H’ers At Camp
Rappahannock County 4-H members who left Monday to attend the annual camp at Powell’s Fort Valley near Woodstock- are Diana Carr, Carty Moffett, Nancy Nethers, Jimmy Cannon, Danny Hitt, Tommy Williams and Carroll Saunders. They were accompanied by Miss Barbara Jones and W. H. Lyne.
