Home accidents can be costly, cutting work days and increasing family medical expenses, states the Insurance Information Institute.

The National Safety Council reports 4,150,000 home accidents in 1960, of which 27,500 resulted in death and 100,000 caused permanent impairment.

Garden tools and toys should be put up when not in use, advised the Insurance Information Institute, citing that a rake or hoe left in the yard, a child’s toy on the stairs or other objects on the floor could cause a fall and serious injury.
