With the increased volume of traffic on the highways over the weekend as many people poured into the vicinity to view the autumn foliage, only one minor accident was reported Sunday on the main highway and two accidents occurred Saturday, both on side roads. Three automobiles were damaged in a chain reaction crash on Route 211 four miles east of Amissville Sunday afternooa According to. Trooper R. W. Mitchell a vehicle slowed to make a left turn and two cars following slowed when a third car failed to stop. Michael Arthur King of Mt. Ranier, Md. in a 57 Ford struck the rear of a 64 Buick operated by Charles Henry Weber of Alexandria which in turn hit the rear of a 61 Pontiac owned and operated by Robert Earl Hawkins of Arlington, formerly of Washington, Va. Damage to the Hawkins vehile was estimated at $150; the Weber car at $200 and the King car at $200, said Mr. Mitchell. King was charged with failing to keep vehicle under proper control. Trooper Paul Dicks reports three traffic incidents, two Saturday and one on Monday. At 3:45 p.m. October 10 on Route 626 (Blacksburg, Road) in Washington a 59 Ford sedan operated by Earl Virgil Sloan of Alexandria proceeding west sideswiped a utility truck ascording to Mr. Dicks. The vehicle was owned by Virginia Telephone & Telegraph Co., Front Royal and was driven by Harlon Harper, also of Front Royal. There was no injuries.
