1280 Head Sold at
Feeder Calf Sale
The annual Rappahannock Feeder Calf Sale was held at ■the Front Royal Livestock Market Tuesday with 1280 head of cattle offered by 48 consignors. The trend this year, contrary to previous years, was heavier cattle bringing more per pound than lighter animals. The 400500 pound cattle sold highest. According to County Agent W. H. Lyne, cattle were thinner this sale than prior sales, and did not have as much bloom. The cattle graded 39% fancy and choice. James W. Fletcher, Thornton Hill Farm, Sperryville, consigned the highest selling fancy show steer, a 490 pounder which brought 53 cents per pound. Price ranges for pens of fancy steers were from 25 1/4 to 30 cents, mostly 29 cents, fancy show steers of which there were only five, brought from 24 1/2 up to 53 cents; choice steers ranged from 25 1/4 up to 27; good steers sold from 23 1/4 to 25 1/2, mostly 25 cents; medium steers were 19 1/2 to 23 3/4 mostly 22; top pen of calves 7 fancy steers weighing 378 pounds brought 39 cents. Fancy heifers, and there were very few, brought from 22 1/2 td 25 1/2, mostly 24; choice heifers were 18 3/4 to 25 3/4 good heifers were 19 1/4 up to 21 1/4, mostly 20 1/4; medium heifers brought 16 1/2 to 17 1/2, mostly 17 1/2.
