As near as can be determined by the Virginia Department of Agriculture, Rappahannock property owners in 1967 used 312 tons of fertilizer. Actually, we expect this figure to be a bit low, as is the case for other counties where all fertilizer is trucked into the county. Paraquat, formerly cleared only as a weed control chemical for non-bearing fruit trees, has recently been cleared for many fruits and for corn. Paraquat will not be used to replace Atrazine as a chemical for controlling weeds in corn, but will be used in combination with it as one compliments the other.
