Apple Prices Upped

Virginia apple growers received an additional income of $523,799.50 for their 196' crop as a result of bargaining by the Virginia Farm Bureau Marketing Service according to VFBF presideni Robert B. Delano. The evaluation of more than a half million dollars was made by Virginia apple growers. The figure was arrived ai as a result of a 25 cent increase in the price for apples sold to processors. An estimated 55% of the Virginia apple crop was sold to processors last year. Anestimate by the Virginia Crop Reporting Service was that 4,400,000 bushels were purchased by processors. According to the Virginia Crop Reporting Service there are 96,088 apple trees in Rappahannock County. In comparison there are 107,256 trees in Nelson County; 159, 000 in Clarke and 456,517 in Frederick. Other counties below Rappahannock In number are Shenandoah with 92, 428; Carroll with 76,550 and Albemarle with 70,546. Other counties graduate down and the total for the state of Virginia Is 1,652,925.
