Amissville Carnival

Set for Next Week

The annual Amissville Firemen’s Carnival will be held Wednesday, August 20, through Saturday, August 23, of next week. The carnival will feature musical entertainment Wednesday, a parade Thursday, the crowning of the queen Friday, and the awarding of prizes Saturday. It will provide food, games, amusements and rides throughout the week.

Thursday night’s parade will begin at 6:30 p.m., EDT. A plate supper will be available at the carnival grounds. The parade will feature many interesting attractions.

Friday night will see the crowning of the queen. Contestants competing for the title of Amissville Carnival Queen, 1969 are Debbie Martin, Nancy Sheffield, Carolyn Glascock, Cheryle Poling, Nancy Smith and Connie Comer. Votes can be cast for one of the contestants by purchasing a ticket or tickets on a prize at the carnival.

On Saturday night prizes will be awarded. The grand prize of the carnival will be a 1969 American Rambler. The second prize will be a portable television, third prize: transistor radio, fourth, fifth and sixth prizes: each a $25 savings bond. All residents are urged to attend the annual Amissville firemen’s carnival next week. It will provide excitement and fun for all.

Important Meeting

There will be a public meeting of Sperryville residents in the Sperryville Fire Hall at 7:30 p.m August 20, 1969, to discuss the proposed sewer system for the area.

Senior 4-H Club

After a weiner roast August 5 at Sperryville Fire Hall, nineteen students directed by Miss Judy Burtner and Lee Brumback held a meeting to form a Senior 4-H Club. Officers elected were: President, Ricky Gore; Vice-President, Gail Updike; Secretary, Susan Dodson; Treasurer, Judy Alther; and Reporter, Betty Jenkins.

Several projects for the coming year were mentioned, but it was decided it would be best to wait until the next meeting to make the final decision. This meeting will be held at Graves Mountain Lodge Wednesday, August 20, 1969, following the swim party at six o’clock.

A Recreation Committee was appointed to provide entertainment for the coming year. The committee consists of Maury Nichols, Susan Dodson, Amy Palmer, Sandra Payne and Betty Jenkins. __
