For the first time in more than eighty years, Virginia has elected a Republican Governor. Linwood Holton was the easy victor in the General Election Tuesday over Democratic candidate William C. Battle. However, Holton did not carry Rappahannock. Of extreme interest here also, is the fact that a Republican candidate for a seat in the House of Delegates polled a majority of votes in Rappahannock County.
