Virginia’s historic Executivi Mansion in Richmond will bi open to the public during August of this year.
Beginning August 4 ant extending through August 28 visitors will be welcomed to toui the Mansion any day of the week except Mondays. No admission U charged.
The executive Mansion has few rivals for beauty and historic past. Completed in 1813, it has beer the address of four U. S. ♦’residents, three of whom served also as Virginia governors: Jefferson, Monroe tad Tyler, William Henry Harrison lived there while his father, Benjamin Harrison, was governor. Othei governors in residence were Patrick Henry and Henry Lee, father of Robert E. Lee.
In its time, the Mansion has elegantly and comfortably entertained many glittering names: the Marquis de Lafayette; King Edward VII; U. S. Presidents Hayes, Cleveland, McKinley Roosevelt and Taft; Lord Balfour Marshals Foch and Petain General Pershing; Charles Lindbergh; Admiral Richard E. Byrd and Winston Churchill.
Located on a grassy knoll in capitol square, only steps from the Capitol Building itself, the Mansion is a two-story brick home with large rooms, high ceilings, four Georgian chimneys, lovely gardens and priceless antique furniture and furnishings. It was designed to be a home of distinction and to provide a dignified and appropriate setting for affairs of state. Still it is unmistakably a home, its every room lived in and enjoyed by the forty-nine First Families of Virginia who have been entrusted with its keeping.
