It seems, according to ' some of my readers that meekness has been outmoded, relegated to the limbo of the past, today arrogance, dissension, the ; absolute opposite of meekness is the order of the day. IS didn’ preach the Sermon on the Mount, so if you want to disagree with someone, talk to Jesus about it.
Let us think about prayer this week. One Sunday my pastor preached about prayer and read from the Scriptures where we are to ‘pray without ceasing’. Well, how can one pray without ceasing? What is prayer? The best definition I can find is: to speak to God. The Book says that God is closer than hands and feet, even closer than breathing. It also says that ‘God is a Spirit’,s that we must worship Him with our spiritual self. To ipe this means that I must try to attune my spiritual self with this Spirit Being we call God, to speak to God, to constantly acknowledge Him. How about our physical attitude when we pray? Should we pray on our knees? Someone has said that ‘a man is never so tall as when on his knees’, if you feel more reverent in that position, assume it when you pray. To some it is to stand facing the east, the birthplace of our great religions. To me, the position of my physical self matters little, ‘God looks on the heart’, ‘He knows what you need even before you ask’. Our God is a good God. Sometimes after I have gone to bed I say the Child’s Prayer, for Who has learned along the way, Primrose path or stormy steep, More of wisdom than to sayNow, I lay me down to sleep?
