Winners Named
Flint Hill Fire Department reported gross receipts from the carnival held last week to be in excess of $19,000, and extended appreciation to all who assisted in the great achievement. Good weather and attendance combined with the extreme efforts expended by everyone made the four night festivities a success.
Prizes awarded Friday night included an Angus Heifer which went to Ralph W. Ridgeway of Strasburg and the set of china went to George H. Davis, Jr., Washington, Va.
The grand prize, a 1970 Plymouth, awarded Saturday went to Joe Menoche of Wheaton, Md. Cash prizes were awarded as follows: $75 to Julian E. Carter, Warrenton; $50 to Walter E. Wiser, Warrenton, and $25 to Jim Preziotti of Hillcrest Heights, Md. Other prizes were a lawn mower received by Mrs. Eva Smith of Flint Hill and an electric drill which went to Robert Frazier of Washington, Va.
Prizes given for parade classes included: Best appearing fire company, towns over 500 population, first, Luray, second, Shawnee; Best appearing fire company, towns under 500 population, first, Amissville, second, Remington; Fire company coming longest distance, Accokeek, Maryland.
Best appearing rescue truck and equipment, Sterling Park; Best appearing ambulance, Sterling Park, Rescue truck or ambulance coming longest distance, Accokeek, Maryland; Oldest piece of equipment under own power, Falls Church Fire Dept., 1914 Ford (Old Tom).
Best appearing antique car, 1928 Packard, owner Roy Burton, Falls Church; Best comic entry, Bridges Traveling Clowns, Purcellville; Best ladies auxiliary, first, Woodstock, second, Elkton; Best honorary fire chief, Miss Cheryl Poling, Amissville.
Best appearing float, first, Edinburg Lions Club, second, Flint Hill Community; Special judges award, Eminburg Lions Club Float; Best appearing bands, first, Berkeley Springs, second, Stafford, third, Turner Ashby, Dayton; Best drum major, Stafford; Best drum majorette, Berkeley Springs; Best drum and bugle corps, Stars of Shenandoah.
