In the regular fall term Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act provide* the only Special Education clas* in the county, a Junior Primary clam, a reading program at the primary level, and a teacher aide program.
In the past, Title IS funds wen used to assist in the equipping of . the Home Economics Department and the Shop Department at ,]j Rappahannock County High School, as well as maintaining an Intensive reading program at the elementary level and providing vast quantities of equipment and materials.
Still another aspect of Federal aid that this County utilizes is Title U of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act which provides funds for library books and audio-visual materials. With these funds we have purchased over 500 books, 80 pamphlets, 50 maps, 8 charts, 3 globes, 70 records, 11 films, 150 filmstrips, 6 sets of encyclopedias, and other miscellaneous audio-visual materials.
Rappahannock County also taps funds provided by the National Defense Education Act. One of the recent projects funded by this program was the wiring of the schools for Educational Television and the provision of the necessary TV sets to view the outstanding programs available for classroom use.
In the last 4 years, Rappahannock County has received over $270,000 in Federal funds to help supplement the County's educational program. Last year we received on the average of $50.00 for every child In the Rappahannock County School System. All of the programs, materials, and equipment in conjunction with those programs and facilities provided by state and county funds, are examples of how the School Board is providing the children of this county with the educational program to which they are entitled.
