The week of October 11 is National School Lunch Week and a universal menu was planned for Wednesday, October 14. Yesterday’s lunch included fried chicken which was obviously enjoyed by Mark Perdue of Woodville and Bert Gilkey of Chester Gap at the local elementary school. Accompanying the meat were green peas, cole slaw, bread, butter, milk, fruit and cookies. About 700 children or 85% of the total enrollment of Rappahannock County Elementary School eat in the cafeteria each day. The two-fold purpose of the lunch program is to provide pupils with a meal which meets one-third of their daily nutritional requirements and to teach them good food habits.
