WASHINGTON / Fire Company and Rescue Squad completed a most successful four-night carnival Saturday and Chief Ennis Jenkins was pleased with the event and the cooperating weather. While gray clouds hung low over the area, the rain held off until close up time each night.
Winner of the grand award, a 1972 Ford pickup, was Jean Keller ofStrasburg. Other prizes were a $75 Savings Bond which went to Ralf Cor ran of Gainesville; $50 Bond to Shirley North, Chester Gap and $25 Bond to Dorothy Burke of Arlington.
A big parade Thursday evening produced the following results in judging: Shawnee V.F.D. was named best appearing company over 500 population, with Luray in second place; best appearing fire company under 500 went toMcGhaeysville and second was given to Castleton. McGhaeysville was also awarded the trophy for company coming longest distance; oldest piece of equipment under own power and best appearing ladies auxiliary.
