University, her husband died. Shortly thereafter she left the government service and found employment in private enterprise with an aviation publishing firm where she worked as a secretary and later an editor.
She met and married Morrell Magarity and they both retired to Rappahannock in 1962. He died two years later. “Because I loved these mountains and my home, I stayed on here,” she said. “And when school opened in the fall six years ago, one of the teachers failed to show up. I was asked to take the position.”
“Though she had no teaching experience, she accepted the challenge, and she says, “It has proved to be a very enriching six years for which I am grateful. Now I am retiring for the second time. I have made many dear friends here, and I expect to enjoy a full and busy life.”
