is based on volume and not on weight. To get our money’s worth all items put in trash containers should be reduced to their smallest volume. For example, cans should be mashed flat.
A normal size soup can has a volume of 30 cubic inches. If the bottom and top are cut from the can and the remaining cylinder mashed flat, the volume is six times smaller. Reducing the volume of cans, breaking bottles, and slitting the sides of boxes before placing them in the refuse containers will make the use of the trash containers more efficient.
