MAYBE THE writer of this poem is putting a hex on his lost love by making her remember, in his own subtle way. Let’s hope it works: My love sought to forget me In soothing other’s sighs; My love cannot forget me For I have kissed her eyes. My love sought to forget me In music and in wine; My love can not forget me For she has once been mine. My love seeks to forget me, Oh, she tries with mighty will, My love cannot forget ME Because I LOVE her still. And that is about enough of that. But remember fellers, if y’ Caint live with ’em, you shore caint live without ’em; the sweet, cuddly critters.□
