This year’s crop suffered a little frost damage last spring, but by and large things worked out pretty good, Kilby added, and the pick was good for all varieties grown in the county — Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Winesap, York, Stamen-Winesap.

The co-operative was first organized in 1936 and, as noted, is the only one still operating in Rappahannock. Herbert Foster and Sons have a small, individual packing operation for their own orchards near Flint Hill. — Ray Dilley
