Weights were left our of this summary because for the first time in my memory weights were only a marginal factor. Steers in the Madison Yearling Sale one week prior averaged 34.01 compared to the steer calf average of 34.81. Most comments on the revised grading system were favorable. But because of the changes in the grading system, please don’t buy good grade heifers for replacements or foundation cows from a state graded sale. Buy choice graded heifers — these are the ones with the frame and growth potential.
The next series of area graded feeder calf sales will be Culpeper and Marshall Thursday, October 31st and Winchester Friday, November 1. All three sales are good and consistently rank among the top in the state.□
