“THE BEST LAID PLANS of mice and men gang aft aglay.’’ I know very little about the plans of the rodent family, I do know that with homo sapiens their most cherished wishes are seldom realized.
Why all the frustrations? When I retired I thought I had it made. Oh, I was going to read a lot of good books, travel and just relax and grow old gracefully. Gracefully? Well, just grow old without too many worries. What happened? Seems that someone or something took the lid off our spiralling economy. Are we becoming greedy, are we buying more than we actually need? Are we lazy, do we have to buy luxury foods; something already prepared? How about cars; they are becoming so sophisticated they almost drive themselves? I had the pleasure of riding with a lady recently, she had so many gadgets I asked why she hadn’t bought one with an electric eye that would follow the lines in the road. These things are not free.
“The land of the free and the home of the brave.” Where is that vaunted freedom? I, for one, am not very brave. There was a person up here the other day to reassess the value of my property for tax purposes. Where will it end? Someone has predicted that it will not be too long before the government will own all the property, and we will be a nation of renters. Freedom?
Wars? What price peace, or will there be peace? The Christ said there would not be any peace. Lord, when will You establish that state, where every man shall sit under his OWN vine and fig tree, and no one will make him afraid?
