The defendant answered “no” when his own attorney asked him if he had killed Stuart Webb. The defendant said repeatedly that he never saw young Webb again after he dropped him off at the road.
As Judge Reams announced the verdict, he admitted the evidence was largely circumstantial, but the prosecution established “opportunity” and supported it with identification of hairs found on the body, it was noted.
A punishment for the juvenile defendant will be established at a later date. In the meantime, the boy was released to the custody of his mother. Culpeper County probation officers will be instructed to make a social study of the boy before punishment is decided. □
