There was a low murmuring throughout the crowd as everyone wailed anxiously for the final scores . . it looked as if it would be a close race between Rappahannock and Luray . . . but who would be this year’s Skyline District Cross Country Champions? Finally attention was called and platings were being announced . . . Montevideo 115 points; Madison 91; Page 90; Central 73. Two schools were left, Luray and Rappahannock—and finally, “Luray High School placed second with 65 points and this year’s Skyline District Cross Country winner is Rappahannock with 52 points.”
Rappahannock fans broke loose in an uproaring cheer—our Panthers had done it again! Last Friday’s District meet was exciting to say the least. The support of Rappahannock fans was great. The placings by the Panthers were: Allen Smoot 7; Donnie Compton 8; Kevin Raney 10; Donnell Carter 13; Clifton Jenkins 14; Charles Wharton 21 and Wayne Woodard 24. Coach Toth was dripping with happiness (literally) after he and many of the runners were thrown into a nearby pond in honor of the Rappahannock victory. Fans were glowing with pride and happiness. Panthers—we couldn’t be prouder— you’re the greatest!
The Cross Country State Meet is scheduled for this Saturday, November 8 at Williamsburg beginning at 10:30, so come on out if you can. Best of luck Panthers.
Last Friday our JV and Varsity cheerleaders held a super pep rally for the C.C. team. The time and effort put into it was evident because it was one of the best pep rallies we’ve ever had. I know the boys really appreciated 1 it.
