WORKING people under 72 who are getting social security payments should report any changes in their 1975 earnings estimates as soon as possible according to Philip E. Bettendorf, social security district manager in Winchester. A
“Social security payments to people 72 and over aren’t affected by their earnings,” Bettendorf said. “But earnings can affect payments to people under 72. They should report any change in their work or earnings on the post card sent to all people who work and get social security checks.”
“People who find they are earning less than they originally estimated may get additional social security payments during 1975 if they report the change,” he noted. “But people earning more than they originally estimated who don’t report the change may get social security payments not due them and have to pay back some money at the end of the year.”
SOCIAL security payments are not affected by earnings of $2,520 or less for the year. Payments are reduced $1 for each $2 earned
