WE HOPE the Purcellville Council members were not really as indignant as they indicate® over the fact that a “complete” town budget had, somehow, gotten loose in town, and everyone now knew —horrors!—the exact salaries of public employes.
Everyone ought to know, as a matter of course, and not be compelled, as the Mayor suggested, to go to the Town Hall and make a special request. The public should know fully what its government is costing, and public employes should never forget who they’re working for. Too often, it seems, public employes and elected officials alike tend to forget their proper relationship with their bosses.
Which leads us into another cavil with another group of town officials. The Warrenton Planning Commission was asked to comment on something of great interest to a great many townspeople—the location of a proposed new library building on what is still, despite some inroads, a largely residential street. There are many facets to this question, but the planning commission, after indicating it would take up the matter at its meeting next month, held an unscheduled session and approved the site.
