Baumgardner did his undergraduate work at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington. At VMI, he was president of Omnicron Delta Epsilon, as well as editor-in-chief of the student newspaper. He served as vice president of the VMI Pre-Law Society, as a member of the VMI Honor Court, and as a second lieutenant in the Corps of Cadets. jf
