THE Rappahannock Board of Supervisors took a step towards controlling a hunting abuse problem at the Board’s July meeting, held last Thursday, July 1. County game warden Jim Bankston asked the Supervisors to authorize enforcement of an amendment to the Virginia code making it illegal to carry a loaded rifle or shotgun in a motor vehicle.
Bankston said that 90 percent of his time was taken up lasf year trying to control people shooting from roadside rights-ofway, people who were without hunting permission from any of the surrounding landowners. “I see two people... driving around with a loaded shotgun and I can’t do a thing. I know they’re looking for a deer and are going to shoot the first one that they see, but I can’t do anything until I actually see them pull the trigger,” said Bankston.
