CULPEPER County will present a Bicentennial pageant at 8 p.m. July 9 and 10 at the Culpeper County High School. A nativeborn Britisher, Dr. Grahame F. Henson is the author, producer and director of the pageant.
Using a multi-media approach with vignettes, dance sequences, chorus, slides and tapes, Dr. Henson’s production will glorify the American colonies’s successful struggle for independence from Great Britain with special emphasis on Culpeper’s partin the Revolution.
Among the characters portrayed are Patrick Henry, James Madison, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Lord Mansfield and Culpeper’s 16 Justices who in 1765 drew up and signed a protest against the Stamp Act. Approximately 200 Culpeper people— men, women and children—will participate in the pageant.
Dr. Henson, a native of Wales, has made his home in Culpeper since 1960 when he came from Charlottesville to join the staff of the new Culpeper Memorial Hospital as a surgeon.
