Frazier grilled Chappell with several questions during the Board of Supervisors afternoon meeting Monday. Frazier’s main point of criticism was that ho thought the superintendent did not do enough to publicize a FVb. 2d meeting during which tho results of a school efficiency review were unveiled.
Frazier said he talk'd to a representative from M( »T of America, which perform'd the efficiency review, and was told company and school officials had scheduled the meeting in midJanuary. Chappell announced the meeting near the end of the monthly County School Board meeting Feb. 19.
"Even though you had announced it some when1 in the (school board) meeting on the 19th, you did nothing to get the knowltdge out to the public. Why is that?" Frazier ask'd. "All you had to do is notify the press and it would have been in the some weeks newspaper as the meeting itself."
Chappell said he "wasn’t {laying attention to Uiose kinds of details." He said MC«T representatives told him in January that the n«|Hirt would lie ready to present Feb. 28, but did not confirm that date until Feb. 19. The Feb, 28 date was originally schedul'd as a budg'd work session. He sent out an e-mail announcement about the meeting on Feb. 2.r>.
“We knew prior to the 19th of February that MOT planned to come on the 28th," Chappell said. “What I didn’t know until the 19th was if they were definitely coming"
M(JT*s analysis of Rappahannock's public schools found very little waste in the system.
“We weren't trying to hide anything," Chap|M>ll said of the re|s>rt "in fact, we had even arranged to use the high school auditorium, so we were expecting a crowd.”
Frazier replitd, “But you didn't tell anyone about it, so how could you expect a crowd',r
“I feel like we did,” Chappell said.
“1 don't' feel like you dill, and I have to take issue with that," Frazier said.
