Rappahannock Relay is the one, annual fund raiser of the local unit of the American Cancer Society conducts. The rest of the year is devoted to education about ways to fight cancer, offensively before it occurs, and defensively, if it does occur.

Relay for Life is a community-wide event in which teams from all over Rappahannock County participate. Team members, both individually and collectively, conduct fund-raising events such as bake sales, garage sales, and the like. They also solicit donations from friends and from merchants. Team members compete among themselves, and the teams compete to raise the most money. Top fund raisers are announced at the Relay. Teams are asked to raise money in advance of the Relay so that everyone can enjoy the food and fun while knowing they have already helped in the fight against cancer.

The first meeting of the Relay Team Captains took place on January 28. Fourteen teams Were represented. The next meeting of captains takes place on Monday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Washington Baptist Church and we hope more teams will be represented.
