Sperryville attracted a large and lively group, despite earlier heavy rain and storms.
The community stepped up to support this benefit for the Scrabble School Foundation which was set up in 2001 to save the historic Scrabble School building and establish a repository for the history and legacy of African-American students who attended the school before schools were integrated in the mid-1960s.
The building is being rehabbed and will serve a dual purpose as a Senior Center and a Heritage Center when it is reopened next year.
