New adventures
AH school years begin with a rush of hope.
Rappahannock County schools open on Aug. 25.
It is a beginning of another chapter in our children’s lives with new adventures and new challenges from the first grade through the 12th.
Perhaps in Rappahannock it is a little more so. The schools here seem a little more timeless, a little more like they have always been. The football team is already scrimmaging, the band is practicing, the new teachers are having orientation and younger children are clinging desperately to the last vestiges of summer's freedom.
There is a new principal at the high school, Adam Burket, a husky one-time football star, who is working on a doctorate in mathematics. There is a tried and true principal at the elementary school, Carol Johnson, 18 years with Rappahannock schools.
The world outside that awaits these youngsters is still dangerous with wars, terrorism, and crime but they still have time before they face it.
For the students and teachers facing the new school year, we wish them much success in this exciting adventure.
