The existence of asbestos in the county's schools has been known tor years,, with the mam question being what to do about removtng it and when. On Oct. 30, 3007 environmental consultant C. Chance Famuiiner reported to Chapped that he had completed a regular three-vear asbestos re-inspection. “For the most part all materials inspected were in feur to good condition and our recommendations are to continue operations and maintenance procedures as you have dune in the past.1* Famuiiner reported. The consultant is affiliated with Rockbridge Environmental Consulting. Inc., of Lexington. Va.
Famuiiner did recommend in attached “notes’* that there were some “specific details that require attention.' The report identified approximately 4.300 square feet of acoustical plaster in the ceiling of the high school's main corridor that had “a potential tor significant damage.' The consultant from Rockbridge recommended that steps be taken to protect the area from damage and continue maintenance procedures “until removal.'
Late last year, in his routine publicly-circulated RCFS Facts 4C. Chappell reported that “no asbestos actions are planned.' That was on Nov. fi. 3007.
