Dolly’s Consignment and Gifts opened this week in Amissville's landmark general store - Hackley’s - which closed in June after a run of 75 years.
“It was a soft opening,” said Angela Albrecht, daughter of owner Nancy Petty of Amissville, who named the place after both her mother and mother-in-law, both known as Dolly. “We are hoping to have the grand opening by the first weekend in September.”
Albrecht said she and her sister, Annette Bowlin, both also Amissville residents, had been planning with their mother to open a consignment and tea shop - which they had never done before - for about a year and a half. "This opportunity just came up,” said Bowlin.
They signed a lease last month with building owner Dorothy Hackley, whose inlaws opened the country store*in 1934.
