Legion Begins Campaign
Of “Tide of Toys”
American Legion Post No 245 of Rappahannock is opening its drive foe serviceable toys for “Tide of Toys’* campaign. This drive was begun at the meeting Tuesday night.
The Legion usually meets the second Tuesday in the month, but the date was set ahead this time in order to get the toy drive in motion.
This “Tide of Toys" campaign, with Bing Crosby as national honorary chairman, is a program of the American Legion to furnish toys te the “no-have” children of war-torn countries. Each child in America is asked to bring a toy, wrapped well, and with a card attached giving name, age, and address of the giver. It is hoped that this will stimulate correspondence with the child in some foreign country who receives the gift toy.
Chairmen in Rappahannock, to be contacted, are Lyle Rector in Flint Hill, E. M. Jones in Washington, and W. H. Lyne, Sperryville. They can tell where the wrapped and tagged toys are to be collected.
An additional piece of business of the American Legion meeting Tuesday night was the' decision to purchase five “Drive Carefully) Protect Our Children” signs to bet placed at approaches where cnildi ren are subject to auto hazaras. Legion members stated that they knew many places where such signs were needed, and as funds ' were available, more would bet put up. Anyone who wishes to contribute to the purchase of extra signs, will find their donations welcome.
