Orchard mice control demon* stration will be held at l(f a.m. at Ned Jones’ Miller orchard at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) by Dr. ’ Frank Horsfall: Dr. Horsfall is considered outstanding in this work and is in charge of research work at the VPI Experiment Station. It takes several years and considerable work‘ to grow an apple tree until it begins to bear, however, mice in a little while can girdle a tree or its main roots just below the surface causing it to die. Come, bring your help and learn how to do the job effectively.

. * ' * ^ ',■■ ■ An Area Fruit School will be held at Sperryville on Friday, March 2. All of the principal man* ufacturers of sprayers and dusters, all tractor companies, many ,of the spray materials people, power pruning and chipper people and others selling orchard euipment or supplies have been' invited to bring their equipment. Weather permitting this equipment will be demonstrated at the Clifford Miller orchard from 9 to 11 a.m. Should it be raining the equipment mill be on display at Mr. Miller’s machine died. The speaking program will .begin at eleven o’clock in the morning at Sperryville School auditoriums. If you happen to be one of those •fruit growers who thinks he knows it all . . . better stay home . . . however, I believe every man should strive always to improve his business and that this school will offer much of value to the fruit growers. I urge that all of Rappahannock orchardists attend and am sure you will be welcomed.

Lunch will be served by the Home Demonstration club ladies.

Plans Dropped

kk Pooled Chicken Orders

Floyd Compton, president of Rappahannock poultry producers, announced yesterday plans to pool orders for baby chicks from leading hatcheries in Viifeinlia had been dropped due to lateness of ■♦receiving replies from hatcheries contacted and a majority of producers having already placed their ^orders.

This does not mean the association has completely forsaken the pooled order idea for certain definite advantages have been revealed as a result of investigating a number of hatcheries. It means the group will start work on pooling orders for next year in. December instead of February.

Results of the investigation including: factual data as to quality of'"chicks offered and production capabilities of their parents, health, price etc., are available at the county agent’s office and may be'seen .upon request. Poultrymen who have not already placed their baby chick orders are urged to take advantage of this opportunity.

Lou Keyaer Circle Met

The Lou Keyser Circle of Washington Baptist church met Thursday evening, February 22, in the home of Miss Ethel Jenkins with seven members present. One now member, Miss Gladys Payne was added at this time. The president, Miss . Mary Miller Wood, led the discussion-of the subject for the month “If”, assisted by Miss Elizabeth Racer, Mrs. Dor* TJpdike, Mrs. Virginia Payne and Miss Ruby Jenkins. . ' . "j
