Letter To The 'Editor
In the many suggestions made concerning.the school situation-in Rappahannock county, 1 have not heard the following given: Why not use the Battle Fund to build aa large a school as possible on the Flat Woods location, this building to be an embryo school, to be added on as funds permit?
These rooms could be used for the elementary grades which are now housed at the Rappahannock County High School, thus allowing the rooms' now in use for the elementary grades to be allocated lor high school uses.
As for paying back “painlessly” the money necessary to build a complete new school, I would advise all citisens to talk to their district supervisors. It has recently come to my attention that we, the county, already owe around $80,000,000; some of this is payment of the building of the present Rappahannock High School. If this debt hai not been more greatly reduced in the years since that school was built, why fool ourselves that we can repay $100,000, “painlessly”?
Most of us have to curtail our individual desires and do only those things which we can afford; iwhy not use that principle in our county finances? Surely, if we begin with that which we can afford, and add gradually as we can afford it, we will eventually have that which we all either secretly or openly desire — a nice new school.

What is the principal resource of Rappahannock county?
Some folks would say cattle, others apples, and stiU others might say poultry, I, for one, say that our principal resource is our children. One of my reasons for thinking so is that you can love a child (even more than money)'; another is that our Lord Jesus Christ put man above all other earthly creatures.
Some folks do not have children as resources, but if they are honest with themselves, they will agree that the children are the principal resource.
If any of our farmers needed a barn, a packing house, or a chicken bouse as badly as we need a high school, and if he had_nearly half of the money to build one, I believe he would borrow the balance and put the building up.
I know the building iwill cost money (perhaps 15c per hundred on our present taxable values for a period of 30 years) and it will cost a little more to give our children high school insi|ruction' that they need, but if a person wants badly enough for the children to have what they need, he is willing to pay for it.
Our county can progress oi^ly as rapidly as our children progress.—Contributed.
