Adelaide Sloan, colored, was completed Tuesday evening at 6:S0 - o’clock. The jury, composed of 11 white and one Negro, deliberated an hour and fifteen minutes. ■ Adelaide Sloan was placed in the custody of the sheriff and is now in the county jail at Washington, pending her removal to the State penitentiary,.
Judge J. R. H. Alexander read the instructions to the jury, com_ posed of C. M. M. Greeen, foreman; F. M. Jolliff, Aubrey North, Emerson Smith, Sim Wright, C. R. Jenkins, Charles Foster, Randolph Foster, Weldon Burke,, C. C. Putnam, S. Brawn Smith, and G. H. Utz.
R. V. Snead and W. C. Armstrong of Front Royal represented the Commonwealth, presenting 12 witnesses. James W. Matcher was attorney for the defense, with 9 witnesses.
Adelaide Sloan was tried for the fatal shooting of her brother, 7 William Sloan, at Pine Knot Inn on the Washington - Sperryville highway Sunday, August 27, 1950. The case was tried in the December term of Rappahannock Court and resulted in a hung jury.

The Monogram Club of the Sperryville School is composed of the best-all round pupils of the sixth and seventh grades. These pupils have met certain requirements on ' physical, citizenship, mental, and social efficiency based on a half year of school work. They are 5-pointers and have made an “S” (satisfactory) on 7 phys. edi, they have “S” on all attitudyes and habits and have no unexcused absences or tardies, they have made “S” or above on all school subjects and have participated successfully in a school entertainment, they are active members and officers in one or more clubs or school organizations and'have made a definite contribution to school life. Each member receives aletter, a blue “S” on a white background, for the . first half-year they make the club and a star for each additional half year thereafter. The following are members for the-first half year: Betty Bruce, Margaret Ann Devers, Mary Norman Davis, Bobby Jenkins, Betty Johnson, Frances ruce, Margy Dodson, Mabel Hawkins, Mary Foster, Becky Jones, Bernice Nethers, Elizabeth Verner, and Frances Walker.

In the beauty contest held at the Sperryville Auditorium Thursday of last wgek. The following were winners ;•
Class l,Womenless beauties, Frank Jarvis, first; Buddy Devers second and Chucky wayland third.
Class 2. Sqcth and seventh grade girls, Mabel Hawkins, first; Doris Fincham, second; and Margaret Devers, third.
Class 3. High school girls, Joan Brown, first; Barbara Black, second; and Dot Cloud, third.
Class 4. Couples bf all ages and sizes, Nancy Brown and Buddy Devers, first; Judy Hawkins and Julian Brown were second; and Ronnie and Joey Schober were (third.
A total of 984 was raised from the contest which was given,for the benefit of the Dental Clinic Fund.

'Over 200 first, aid, books have arrived for Rappahannock schools. The classes in first aid will begin immediately for both white and colored schools from the 7th through the 12th grades.
