The Rappahannock Hunt Pointto-Point Races will be held at “Leeway Farm," Washington, on Saturday, March 31, at 2 p.m.
After a very successful hunting season, the members of the Rappahannock Hunt decided to' hold their first point-to-point. On Monday night, 14 enthusiastic members and friends-— W. A. Laing, R. C. Scott, Mrs. D. D. Miller, Capt. W. M. Weiner, F. M. , Lewis, Newbill Miller, W. F. Moffett, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Greenaway, Miss Florence Fitzgerald, Mr. and Mrs. Wade H. Massie, III, and Mr. and Mrs. J. R. DeBergh—met to complete the plans. . We are greatly indebted to Mr.
Laing for his interest and help in setting up our six-race program.
The' races will be run in the following order:
FARMER'S RACE —Race for - any Rappahannock County farmer (or a member of his immediate family or a farmhand regularly employed by him) riding a horse or mule which has been worked regularly the year in harness on has farm. Catch weights. About
%-mlle on the flat. Cash prizes tot first three places.
THE JBATTLE RUN—Race for Gentlemen. Weights 175 'bs. To be ridden by members of n.e Rappahannock Hunt, in hunting attire, riding a horse which has been hunted regularly this season. About 3 miles over natural hunting country. A piece of plate to be presented to the winner.
THE MOUNT SALEM —Sidesaddle or astride. Catch weights. About 2% -miles over natural hunting country. To be ridden by a member of a recognized hunt, in hunting attire, riding a horse which has been hunted regularly this season with a recognized hunt. A piece of plate to be presented to tbe winner.
THE MOUNT MARSHALL— Open race for Gentlemen. Minimum weights 175 lbs. About 3 miles over natural hunting country. To be ridden by a member of a recognized hunt, in hunting attire, riding a horse which has been hurt ted regularly this season with a recognized hunt. A piece of plate to be presented to the winner.
THE RAPPAHANNOCK BOWL —Race for Gentlemen. Minimum weights 190 lbs. About 3 miles over natural hunting country. To be ridden by a member of the Rappahannock Hunt, in hunting attire, riding a horse which' has been hunted regularly this season. A piece of plate to be presented to the winner.
HOUND RACE—Open to any resident of Rappahannock county who owns a hound. To be run over a drag course. Cash prize to the winner.
1. There will be no entry fees and post entries are acceptable.
2. The Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry which it feels does not meet the race qualifications.
3. The ‘ Committee Reserves the right to combine any of the above races in the event of insufficient entries in one or more racest However, trophies will be presented as stated.
There will be no admission fee except f 1 parking charge for cars. Refreshments will be sold on the grounds by Hampton Inn.
“Leeway Farm” is part of our regular hunting country and is especially suitable for a race ' course as spectators will have a perfect view of the races at all times.
In view of %e fact that horses have been seriously injured by broken glass, tbe Race Committee requests that spectators , not drop bottles on the grounds. Receptacles will be provided at the refreshment stand, and co-operation along this line will be greatly appreciated and will certainly contribute to .the success of the meet.
