For instance, the New York Times the other day passed along such '‘ Vital information as this in its practically-eantified columns: If a cow has no birth certificate, here’s how to figure her age: / “At 12 months or younger, all the milk (calf) incisor teeth are in place. At 15 months, the center pair of incisor teeth may be replaced by a center pair of permanent incisors, these being through the gums but not yet in wear. At 18 months, the center pair of permanent incisors should be fully up and in wear, but the next pair, the first intermediates, have not eut through the gums. At three years, there should be three pairs of broad teeth fully up with the corner permanent teeth and in wear and the corner milk teeth may be shed or shedding, just appearing through the gums."
Life has a fuller meaning to me now that I have acquired that information. All I now have to do is (1) commit the above facts to memory, (2) give myself a little practical experience by running around through /pastures opening, cows’ mouths and staring therein. In the future if anytime I want to know the age of a cow, I shall be well qualified to judge.
