Mrs. Virginia M. Lewis was hostess to the Woman’s Society of Christian Service of the Methodist church which met in her home at Sperryville Wednesday evening, with ten members present. Mrs. Nina Brown, president, opened the meeting with the reading of the hymn, “Are Ye Able, Said the Master." The Scripture lesson was Matthew xvi:19, after which a prayer was offered. Mrs. Lewis lead the program, using the subject “A Lesson in Symbols," dealing with Moslem women and showing the use of different symbols such as the Cross, crescent, etc. Reading were given by Mrs. Catherine Brown, Mrs. Lee Swindler, "Mrs. Evelyrf Clater, Hi*. J. B. ' Johnson, and Mrs. Lewis. During the business session several matters were discussed and plans were made for projects to be worked out at a later date. The meeting closed with a prayer by Mrs. Brown. A most enjoyable socal hour followed at which time the hostess served refreshments.

MRS. THORNTON ENTERTAINS BRIDGE CLUB

Mm. P. Lee Thornton, Jr., entertained the bridge club at her home in Sperryville Thursday evening. Those playing were Mrs. Carroll Menefee, Mrs. George Taylor Mrs. Fred Schaefer, Mrs. Z. H. Sealock, Mrs. L. J. Kilby, Mrs. C. H. H. Branch, Mrs. C. E. John- - son, Jr., Mrs. R. E. Wood, Mrs. Irving Kilby, Mm. Charles Estes, Mrs: J. P. Snead, Mrs. J. H. Aylor, Mrs. H. B. Winfrey, Mrs. W. H. Lyne, Mrs. Holmes Hall, and P. Lee Thornton. Mrs. R. E. Wood was awarded high score prize, Mm. Hall, the medium, and Mm. L. J. Kilby, low. At the conclusion of the game a salad course was served by the hostess.

RETURNS FROM HOSPITAL

Dorothy Lee Dodson, daughter of Mr. and Mm. Lester D. Dodson, who has been in University hospital for a mastoid operation following a long illness, has returned to her home in Sperryville. The little girl has to be taken to the hospital twice each week for a check-up and further treatment. It is reported her progress is satisfactory.
