Greetings and congratulations to the response of a momentous call. I am proud to see my old home town step forward under the guardianship of skillful hands, bright and intelligent minds, and gentle hearts.
"Little Washington” as I know and loved it a long time ago, has always been to me the garden spot of the world, an enchanted spot full of charm, an exquisite little gem in the choicest setting where the sun shines the brightest, the flowers bloom the prettiest, the birds sing the sweetest.
There my father and mother hung their little nest against the great breast of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
There my childhood carefree ftnd happy was spent, my girlish romance came to life and finally - I was married from the little church, Trinity Episcapol, which carried me through a ngw interesting and happy phase of life.
We Virginians have always1 been - proud of our men. Just as her women have always held their own in graeious charm and it does my heart good to see them step forward today in the front line sharing in the solution of our present desperate crisis of making a better world to'live in.
“Little Washington,” “S h e Town,” my first home, my first love, will always remain to me a cherished nook where beauty and the good things of life are stored and I am sure in her fulfillment of growth she will increase in outstanding powers to radiate good •will to all mankind.
