Sgt. James Swindler
Stationed In Okinawa
Sgt. James E. Swindler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Swindler of Sperryville, is stationed on Okinawa with the U.S. Air Force.
Sgt. Swindler formerly attended Sperryville High School, where he was active in baseball and basketball. Prior to enlisting in the Air Force he was a cleik in the E. M. KstesCo. Store in Sperryville.
Sgt. Swindler enlisted in the service in January 1949 and after completing his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, was „ sent to the Clerk-Typist School at Warren, Wyoming. After completing the clerk-typist, course in October 1949, he was sent to the Far East Overseas Replacement Depot at Hamilton Air Force Base, California, where he departed for overseas in November^ 1949. Sgt. Swindler arrived on Guam in December 1949, where he was stationed until he was assigned to Okinawa in September 1950.
He is currently assigned to the finance section where he is a payroll clerk.
Since arriving in the Far East, Sgt. Swindler has received the Japanese Occupation Medal and the the Korean Service Medal.
Sgt. Swindler stated that he intends to return to Rappahannock county, where he will engage in farming, after he is discharged from the service.

Funeral services for James G. Cooke, prominent farmer of tho Korea neighborhood, who died at University hospital Friday morning, after a long period of declining health, were held Sunday afternoon from the Amissville Baptist church. Rev. M. E. Sliger conducted the last .rites. Interment was in the family section the church cemetery,* . .

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Frances Latham Cooke, a foster son, Harry Lewis Mills, a sister, Mrs. Thomas F. Curtis, and -three brothers, Clarence—Cooke, of Viewtown, Hugh H. Cooke, of Korea, and Arthur Cooke of Washington, D.C.
