SOIL CONSERVATION ELECTS
OFFICERS NOVEMBER 6
The Culpeper S6il Conservation District will elect officers on November 6, coincident with the General Election. The district, .comprising Culpeper, Madison, Greene, and Rappahannock counties, will elect three supervisee for a three-year term. The term1 will become effective January 1, 1952.
Supervisors twho now serve the district are L. W, Kipps, T. G. Ragsdale, William M. Yager, F. Downing Wood, and Bogardus Werth.
The Culpeper Soil Conservation District was organized October* 4, 1939 to conserve and protect the soils and soil resdurces of the five counties of the district.
This 'district is one of 22 Soil Conservation districts of Virginia which have been organized and operated by landowners of the state under the provision of the Virginia - Soil Conservation Districts Act, passed by the General Assembly in 1938. To date 88 of the 93 agricultural counties of Virginia are included in the 22 districts. The objective of districts is to assist landowners in planning and applying a sound land use and soil and water conservation program on each of the 160,000 farms in the state. More than 25,000 ‘Virginia farms now have complete soil and water conservation plans as a result of the districts program 'while countless additional thou-* Sands of farms have had applied one or several conservation practices because of the influence of districts.
The speed that farms receive the new look through a proper land use and soil and water conservation program will he determined by the people who live on . the land for it is only through this local leadership that the soil and water resources of any nation may be protected.
SPACE NEEDED FOR SUMMER MUSIC STUDENTS
About 30 county people have registered for the classes to be given by William Haaker at Bins Ridge Music Center during the * summer camp, states Mrs. Haaker. Most of those signing up have expressed preference for the “learning to read music” class, and few have joined the advanced
