Of Recreation Center
Future tennis players stood by* excitedly last week when the John K. Kelly bulldozer graded for a tennis court on the Geest lot in Washington where H. C. G®est has leased free to the town the use of the lot as a recreation center. 1 ‘
R. V. Snead, C. T. Bruce, L. J. Turner, W. F. Moffett, Jr., Jack Price, and J. R. DeBergh were among those helping with the work on the tennis court.
There’s much work to be done before the tennis court is ready*for use and volunteers should contact R. V. Snead as to what and when to do. If you have a spare hour, use it to help fix the tennis court.
When the time came to set up the see-saws and sliding board for the children, Rayner Snead and Paul A. Walker were on band to pour the concrete foundations for posts and Roscoe Dodson also vol-» unteered his work. The ehildren etood by, eyes wide iwith excitement, awaiting the last bolt in the assembling. Other equipment will be added in the near future.
Picnic tables have been placed by the highway department; on® on the recreation lot and on® on the bank lot by the side of the fire house.
An out-door fireplace has been built on the fire house lot and th® directors of Rappahannock National Bank have graciously offer-* ed the use of their lot adjoining as a picnic grounds. Here are benches and a picnic table where organizations may enjoy out-door refreshments along with meetings.
This recreation center has been a dream of the ladies of the Town Council’, and now their work is being rewarded. They are having the satisfaction of seeing the child, ren have a playground, a tennis court for those who enjoy tennis, ^and a recreation center for picnics and meetings.
