The brown field* of the county bear mute witness to many a far* oner's statement that the past two months have been as dry as the terrible summer of 1M0.

One farmer started to say “the pastures are” and then changed the statement to "The pastures aren’t" One livestock man stated he turned the stock into, the les* pedeza, because these was no usecutting hay if you have to feed it before it’s stored.

The water system in the town of Washington has been low for some weeks. A dangerously low point of last week was relieved somewhat when the high school was closed Friday for a teachers’ meeting, followed by the regular week-end holiday. The school uses a large share of the water furnished for the town. People in Washington have been notified not to .water lawns and shrubs or to wash cars.' Every eare is Urged to save water and use only what is necessary.

Happy Creek near Front Royal is a golly of reeks. Other stream* are dry to the point where fish are dying and farmers are having to dig out holes in creek beds to "water stock; ' >. ,• - The problem of lack of water is becoming acute. Many folks expressed the hope that September 511 and the Equinox would mean a good rainy spell, but, so far, all signs have failed.

Some people have recalled the mid-west • country editor who, in the dreadful drought of 1930,. brought out his weekly paper with large headlines, "Lord, We Confess Our Sins; Please Send Rain.” Others have remembered the story of the little girl who went to the prayer meeting to pray for rain' •und took her umbrella.

Small Boy Injured In Fall

Franklin Pullen, small son of Mr. and Mrs. James H. (“Goose”) Pullen, was injured Tuesday in a fall through the elevator shaft at Sperryville Cold Storage. The boy fell from the second floor through to the first. He is in Front Royal hospital where reports say he has a fractured skull -, and chest injuries. <$!)*;■'?> —-—w . AUXILIARY SHOWS PROGRESS

At the meeting of the Firemen's Auxiliary, Monday night, reports showed progress in the work of the organisation as well us an increase in the finances. -A mem- ; bersbip increase has also been noted.

Key persons in the Flint Hill -> and Amissville communities are now actively taking part in the auxiliary and accepting a part in" working for the progress of Rappahannock Volunteer Fire Co. **
