On livestock Auctions
The Virginia Advisory Legis* - lative Council recommended today against* uniform hours for sales, by law or regulation, at Virginia livestock auction markets, and also advised against their being required to operate under certificates of convenience and necessity. • - ‘ '
In a report to Governor Battle and the General Assembly, the - Council said that while no law ahould be enacted *» to sales hours markets should be required to be*' gin livestock sales at the published hour selected by them.
Other conclusions and recommendations included:
1. The present system of requiring weighmasters on reasolutieuoftha governing body of the county in which the market is. . located should-be continued; if weighmasters are required, the! use of registering weight beams or weight recorders should be provided for., ■ *.
2. All livestock o which is sold by weight should be sold on the basis <of weight determined at the time and place of sale, unless /' otherwise publicly announced. * 4; 3. Bond required to be posted by a market should be increased to a minimum of $5,000 and a maximum of $20,000 (the present Requirement is $3,000.) '
4. Funds should be appropriated to augment the staff of the state veterinarian to provide for ade4 quate sanitation and disease control at the markets, t 8. The state fire marshall, with the Commissioner of Agriculture, should examine fire hazards at some of the markets.- 4' v6.
