A. C. Latham, chairman of local hoard 102, Rappahannock county, reminded college students today that the deadline for filing application blanks for the new series of selective service college qualification tests is fast approaching and he stressed the importance of ali eligible students taking the test if they intend to apply for deferment as students.
The test dates in the second series are December 18, 1901 and April 24, 1052. The tests are conducted by the educational testing service of Princeton, New Jersey. Blanks may be obtained by the registrant in any local board office. ,
Mr. Latham, said that students whose academic year will end in January, of 1952 are urged to apply for the December 13 test, so they will have scores in their tiles when the local boards consider their cases in January.
A. C. Latham, indicated that those who do not have test score results in their cover sheets may have “a very difficult time indeed” in convincing their local boards that they should be deferred as students.
Application blanks for the "December 18, 1961 test must be posfer marked not later than midnight, Monday, November 5, 1961. Applications for the April M, 1962 test must be postmarked not later than midnight, March 10, 1962.
The criteria for deferment as a student is either h satisfactory score (70) on the selective service college qualification test or satisfactory rank in class (upper half, of the freshmen class, upper twothirds of the sophomore class, upper three-fourths of the junior class). Seniors accepted for admission to a graduate school satisfy the criteria if they stand in the upper half of their class, or make a score of 75 or better on the test. Students already enrolled in graduate schools'may be defer, red so long as they remain in good jfjjinding. . — -/*.-^
The standards may be raised or lowered as necessity demands. It is not mandatory for the local boards to follow the criteria.
Registrants may obtain a list of the testing centers in the bulletin of information on the college qualification test by requesting the * bulletin in ' person irons any selective service local board.
