Recollection 'brings back many, many years ago when I was small enough to constantly have the “I want’s.” An oft-repeated singsong, delivered by two older brothers broke the habit. I can still hear it: "You’re big enough, old enougn, and ugly enough for your wants not to hurt you!"
I wanted to put on airs. I saw what l thought was a beautiful bit of prose. It expressed a code sublime. For once, I day-dreamed, the rough old Walrus will be refined. . . I should have known better. . . After getting the beautiful bit of prose ready to print, be-dog-goned if it didn’t get put in the paper down-side be-upwards wrong side out, and hind-part before ! It got scrambled like the breakfast eggs.
Somone (unkind) made some remarks about "a silk purse” and I think I know what they meant.
Anyway, I’ve learned another lesson the hard way. The Walrus trying to be literary is just about as out of place as a clown in church.
