WINTER PASTURE: Seed a mixture of 3-4 bushels of small grains such as wheat, rye and barley or oats around 15-20th of August and apply 600-700 lbs. to the acre of 4-16-8 or 5-10-10 fertilizer at time of-seeding. Fifteen pounds of rye grass may be added if small grain mixture is reduced and depending upon prices. One acre of this pasture will produce 600 to 800 lbs of protein and provide grazing for 5 to 6 cows to the acre for 4 to 8 weeks. Farms whose pastures are extremely short may wish to seed two fields, one for late fall or early winter grazing and the other foe,.early spring grazing. It is suggested livestock be removed from such pastures daily after^getting their fill to prevent tramping down of forage.
