A week-end trip home had been planned for that week end, so after class dismissal, I was on my way toward Rappahannock. I was alone arid my thoughts were flying with the car wheels - why - why - More and more questions* Therefore I went directly to Mr. Lyme’s office when I reached Washington, Va. Mr. Lyne was not in hut Miss Jenkins greeted me with “I •thought that you were in summer school.” I replied that I was very much in school, and while I was supposed to be taking a science class, I whs rapidly learning to become a beggar. "Do you ave any material on Soil Conservation?” Miss Jenkins laughingly pointed to two large monoliths asking if I could use them. Had she let me have them, 1 dare say she —would no longer lx the county agent’s secretary, for I later learned the effort and vast amount of work that is . put into making a monolith.

While Miss Jenkins was searching for. the literature, 1 was observing what I learned later to be the “sock” boxes of soil—“good ole Rappahannock soil”—and some parent rock. As a result of this observation Miss Jenkins contacted Mr. Lyne by phone and I was allowed to take this to my class at Madison College; however, when I reached my house, I realized after reading the slips in each box that without further help from my county agent, I could do nothing for the class.
